The OSSA is an alliance of security firms that support and promote security and IT convergence, and standards-making organizations that make this possible. These include SIA, ASIS, ONVIF, PSIA, IEEE, PCI and Government (FIPS, TWIC, ANSI).

The OSSA supports the adoption of standards-based languages and data formats.

The OSSA sponsors educational outreach programs that;

  • Educate the security industry about challenges, standards and technologies that have emerged in the new network-centric, IP-based security world.
  • Demonstrate the benefits and application of open-standards based security, surveillance and control system to the user and integrator communities.

OSSA members are committed to;

  • Producing systems that are scalable, actionable and retro-fit friendly.
  • “Open Standards" to ensure that security products from different manufacturers interoperate as one harmonious system.
  • To build products from the ground up to be interoperable.
  • To avoid proprietary implementation of open standards, since modifying standards make them proprietary.
  • Supporting seamless integration using off-the-shelf methods and programming languages.
  • Maximizing the use of existing IT/Security assets.
  • Exploiting dynamic new technologies as they become available.
  • Effectively managing IT/Security assets through their life cycle.
  • Ensuring that system operators have the right information when they need it.
  • Using technology to operate facilities more effectively.
